Ever been caught doing something you shouldn't in University accommodation and were asked to pay a fine? Well they say that every cloud has a silver lining.... You should be pleased to know that all the money that we receive from charging students fines goes to a good cause!
Fines collected from students caught smoking are donated to the Weston Park Cancer Charity, which helps towards pioneering cancer research and improving cancer treatment and care for patients.
All other fines are donated either to the Student Hardship fund for University of Sheffield students, which supports those who are experiencing financial hardship during their studies. We've donated over £4000 to the Student Hardship fund alone!
Catherine Mckeowen from the Financial Support Team in Student Support Services said:
"This year we've had an unusually high number of students experiencing a delay with their student loan assessments, its December and some are still waiting for a complete assessment! Your donation will be the difference between offering a small amount to get by compared to offering a more substantial amount that will help get our students properly back on track."
