Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOF) is held every year in November to mourn those lost to transphobic hatred and violence. These are deaths that are largely ignored by mainstream society, but send shockwaves through the trans community. TDOR allows us to grieve, but also to celebrate the lives that have been tragically cut short by hate crimes.

Join the vigil in Hallam Square from 5.30pm on Monday 20 November to remember the members of the worldwide community who are no longer alive. There will be a minute's silence to remember those lost as well as a minute's noise as an act of visibility.

The organisers of the vigil are looking for speakers and performers, particularly from trans women/people who experience transmisogyny and trans/non-binary people of colour, who are disproportionately affected by transphobic violence. If anyone is interested please email lgbtnetwork@lists.shef.ac.uk  with a brief summary of what you'd like to perform and/or speak about.

After the vigil, SAYiT will be hosting a Celebration and Commemoration Event at Scotia Works from 7-8pm. There will be refreshments and some empowering positive activities to bring the community together.

Both events are open to everyone, and allies are very much welcome.
