Who will be our Student Baker of the Year 2018 ?

Do you see yourself as a keen baker? Maybe all the recent hype on TV has inspired you to get into baking? Come to our Q&A event with special star guest from BBC’s Bake Off.

Whatever you love to bake, we want to hear from you! We are hosting a baking competition for University of Sheffield students and staff and there will be multiple prizes available for different categories and student and staff winners. Entries will be judged by a panel of expert chefs and keen bakers, including special guest star Martha Collison, the youngest ever contestant on BBC’s Bake Off. The winners will be announced during a Q&A session with Martha Collison on Thursday 22 February 2018.

Baking Competition

Applications for our baking competition are now closed but you can still order tickets for the Q&A with Martha.

Q&A with Martha, hosted by Joe Hurd

Click here if you would like to attend the FREE Q&A with Martha at 4pm-5pm on Thursday 22 February 2018 in the Discovery Rooms, Level 5, Students’ Union.

You will hear all about Martha’s experiences as a baker, her interests and life after appearing on the show and she will be doing a baking demo for the audience. The competition winners will also be announced during this event. The event will be hosted by TV chef and presenter, Joe Hurd, who you may recognise if you attended An Audience with Fred Sirireix last year!

We will be collecting donations and will be having a bake sale for charity during the event so come along and be part of this great cause! Please note that, if you are a competition entrant, you will not automatically be given a place at the Q&A so please sign up via our Eventbrite page if you wish to attend.

Further Information

Cakes from the competition will be sold in order to raise money for the University’s Sheffield Scanner Appeal, with donations also being taken at the Q&A. The University is raising £2 million to establish a ground-breaking MRI-PET facility which will transform our understanding of serious conditions like cancer, dementia, heart and lung diseases, MND, Parkinson's and stroke and the way we treat them in the future.

There will be category winners and overall student and staff winners. We have some fantastic prizes including special branded aprons, hampers and food vouchers.

This event is being run by teams in Accommodation & Commercial Services, including Inox Dine and Residence Life, in collaboration with the Students’ Union.

If you have any questions about either the competition or the Q&A session, please email bigunibake@sheffield.ac.uk
