Our work with St Vincent's de Paul - Sheffield

By echorley 09 Feb 2022

As part of our commitment to sustainability we try to ensure that nothing goes to waste - donations received from students are always put to good use. Each year at Intro Weekend we hold the Free Shop where we give away pots, pans and many other kitchen items that have been donated. Anything that doesn't make it to the Free Shop gets donated to local charities that we work with - one of which is St Vincent's Furniture Project.

We have donated over 2.5 tonnes of pots, pans, crockery and food to St Vincent's - something that wouldn't have been possible without the help of our students.

St Vincent's Furniture Project run a collection service across the city collecting pre-owned furniture and household goods which are redistributed to vulnerable adults and families that have been referred to them for support from one of the many agencies that work in collaboration with them.

"The donations we have received from the University of Sheffield have been a huge help to our service and to many of our service users already. While they might have been unwanted to their original owners, they have provided warmth, comfort, sustenance, and dignity to their new ones. We’re incredibly grateful to the University for the collaboration work we have done, continue to do, and will do in the future."
