Residence Gym: 9-11am, Goodwin Sports Centre. We are so excited to introduce gym sessions as part of the Residence Sport programme! There is a range of cardio, fixed resistance and free weights equipment provided by Life Fitness. Our trained fitness consultants are always on hand to help you - whether you want to lose a bit of weight, develop your fitness for sports, or simply improve your health.
Bootcamp: 4.30-5.30pm, The Studio, Goodwin Sports Centre. Bootcamp is a very simple and effective way to increase health, fitness, strength and general wellbeing. It usually comprised of a variety of exercises completed consecutively for a duration of time or a certain number of repetitions. Our Bootcamp sessions promise to be challenging, yet a fun way of making you feel awesome.
Allen Court Pilates: 7.30-8.30pm, Momentum Leisure. Pilates aims to strengthen the body in an even way, with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness and well-being. Practitioners say regular Pilates practice can help improve posture, muscle tone, balance and joint mobility, as well as relieve stress and tension. Come and try it for yourself at our weekly free session!
Ranmoor Yoga: 7-8pm, Dovedale, The Ridge, Ranmoor. Yoga is a great way to combat feelings of tiredness as it allows you to concentrate on your breathing and gently stretch to release any extra tension. Our experienced yoga instructors will take you through the correct techniques and will show you how to use yoga to improve your well-being. As the class will cover all the basics, there is no need to have any previous experience.
Boxing Fitness: 7.00-8.00pm, Goodwin Sports Centre, S&C Room. The sessions consist of pad work, conditioning exercises and boxing technique drills in the company of other students, supervised by our fantastic Student Sport Leaders. The session is ideal for increasing your fitness, boxing skill level and introducing you to the sport of boxing if you have never tried it before. Tuesday
Allen Court Mindfulness and Meditation: 7:30-8:30pm, Momentum Gym. Just like our other class at Ranmoor, our teacher Steve will help us to delve deep into stillness using a variety of techniques including Mantras, Mindfulness, Breath & Body Awareness.
Learn to Cycle: 5-8pm, Stephenson. Have you ever wanted to learn how to ride a bike but not had the opportunity to do so? Or perhaps you learned a while ago and you would like to refresh your knowledge and try it again before you venture outside? Every Tuesday between 5-8 pm you will have the opportunity to learn the basics under the supervision of a qualified cycling instructor in the safety of an indoor venue at Stephenson Hall. (Next to Endcliffe).
Quidditch: 5-6pm, Goodwin Sports Centre, John Hawley. Quidditch is a mixed contact sport with a unique mix of elements from rugby, dodgeball, and tag. It is an exciting sport to watch and even more exciting to play so come and check what this game is all about at our free weekly session.
Sabre Light Fencing: 6-7pm, The Ridge, Ranmoor. A modified version of Olympic Sabre fencing, our brand new free weekly 'sabre light' sessions will show you the basics of fencing through fun games, activities and challenges. Our free weekly session take place in a friendly, safe and engaging atmosphere and is open to all abilities.
High Intensity Fitness Class: 7:15-8:15pm, The Edge, Endcliffe. HIIT, or high-intensity interval training, is a training technique in which you give all-out, one hundred percent effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time.
Social Hockey: 7-8pm, Sheffield High. Social Hockey provides a weekly session for students who want to try the game or play regularly in a cheap, safe, non-competitive and social environment. Hockey is a sport in which two teams play against each other by trying to manoeuvre a ball into the opponent's goal using a hockey stick. So come down and try this fun game for yourself!
Ranmoor Zumba: 7-8pm, Dovedale, The Ridge, Ranmoor. Come and party yourself into shape with our free weekly Zumba class! Our qualified instructor Adele will take your through some of the most popular routines and will show you just why Zumba is not really a workout, but a party instead!

5-a-side Football League. We are excited to announce that we have put together FREE 5-a-side football league as part of your Residence Life offer! We will provide you with team kit and a free football to make sure that you play in style! All fixtures take part at Goodwin Sports Centre (The University of Sheffield) on Wednesdays. Beginner to 5 km Run: 3-3.30pm, Meet at the Edge. If you are considering stepping out and taking up running for the first time, then we've got the perfect opportunity to kick-start your journey!This session is designed to help beginners increase their running in a fun and safe way with a goal of completing a 5km run at the end of the programme with full support and guidance from our Run Leaders.
Residence Spinning: 5.30-6.30pm, Goodwin Sports Centre. Have you heard of spinning? Spinning is the ultimate way of getting fit! It’s basically an indoor cycling session, so you get the benefits of being on the bike even if the weather is not great! Spinning is done to music and include warm up, sprints, climbs, cadences and cool down. You control the resistance on your bike so that you can spin no matter what your fitness level is!
Mindfulness and Meditation: 7:30-8:30 , High Tor, Endcliffe , The Edge. The classes are very practically minded and are geared towards helping people switch off or unplug from their hectic routine. There will always be a firm focus on the right approach to achieve the best results so there will be plenty of practical advice and tips.

Social Table Tennis: 6-7.30pm, Stephenson Activity Room. Table tennis is not only fun but good for your health too - it's great for working up a sweat and getting your heart rate up... But you don't have to be a pro to get a good workout. Just a couple of hours a week hitting that little white ball around can do wonders for your fitness.
Allen Court Zumba: 7.30-8.30pm, Momentum Leisure. As you all know, Zumba is one of the most exciting fitness classes available through the Residence Sport Programme. So come and try it for yourself and dance yourself to fitness at our weekly free Allen Court Zumba class! Thursday
Outdoor Bouldering: Meet at Goodwin , Thursday 10: 00 am Come and explore what the Peak District is famous for- Gritstone bouldering! Our qualified leaders will facilitate this free weekly fun sport in a safe and encouraging way. All equipment is provided. Come in comfortable clothing and bring some water, snacks, waterproofs and £3 for the bus. Suitable for all abilities. This session alternates between Thursday and Saturday starting on Thursday 28th September.
Social Netball: 4-5pm, Sports Hall, Goodwin Sports Centre. Social Netball provides a weekly FREE session for male or female students to play netball in a fun, social and non-competitive environment. The session will be led by experienced sports leaders who will help you to develop new skills, improve fitness and enjoy the game. The session is available to all students of all abilities.
Social Lacrosse: 6-7pm, Sheffield High. Have you never played lacrosse before? Now is your chance to try it completely free of charge! Lacrosse is played with a stick, the crosse, which must be mastered by the player to throw, catch and scoop the ball. But don’t worry, our friendly student leaders will show you all you need to know to get involved in this exhilarating sport!
Ultimate Frisbee: 5-6pm, Goodwin Sports Centre, Pitch X. Ultimate Frisbee is a fast-moving team sport enjoyed by hundreds of thousands of players. Although it is frequently compared to sports like Soccer or American football, ultimate frisbee has some unique features that set it apart. There are no referees and it’s played with a flying disc.
Touch Rugby: 6-7pm, Goodwin Sports Centre, John Hawley. Come and try our Free Social Touch Rugby session! Touch is a non-contact version of rugby so you get the benefits and fun of playing the sport but without the usual impact.
Women’s Self Defence: 6-7pm, The Edge, Endcliffe. This free weekly session will help you understand the basics of self-defence. Our qualified instructor will take you through practical elements of blocking techniques, defences and strikes as well as how to diffuse difficult situations and confrontations within a friendly and encouraging environment. No experience needed.
Endcliffe Fitness Class: 7-8pm, The Edge, Endcliffe. Getting fit has never been easier! The class consists of general conditioning with elements of LBT, cardio, pilates and many more! Our qualified and experienced instructor Peggy will explain the basics of correct technique and will take your through a general workout.
Allen Court Yoga: 7.45-8.45pm, Momentum Leisure. We have partnered with the Momentum Gym to deliver a yoga session on your doorstep so you don’t even have too far to go!This session will focus primarily on Vinyasa Flow which coordinates movement with breath, to flow from one pose to the next. You are guaranteed to finish the class as relaxed as ever!
Endcliffe Thursday Yoga: 8.15-9.15pm, The Edge, Endcliffe. Due to popular demand, we have now introduced another Free Yoga class at Endcliffe! Our experienced Yoga Instructor Pam will take you through the correct technique and will show you how to use Yoga to improve your well-being. Please note that this Yoga session focuses on more active elements of Yoga. Friday Social Women’s Football: 4-5pm, 5-a-side Pitches, Goodwin Sports Centre. Social Women’s Football provides a weekly session for female students to participate in football regularly in a fun, social and non-competitive environment. The session will be led by experienced sports leaders who will help you to develop new skills, improve fitness and enjoy the game. The session is available to all students of all abilities.
Social Volleyball: 5-6pm, Sports Hall, Goodwin Sports Centre. We have a brand new addition to our programme! Our weekly volleyball session will give you an opportunity to learn the basics so that you can enjoy playing this fun game. All abilities welcome.
Residence Swimming: 6-8 pm, Goodwin Sports Centre. There is a reason why swim, sauna & steam is one of the most popular activities on the Residence Life sport programme. Swimming is not only one of the most pleasurable forms of exercise, but the contact with water is very beneficial and helps loosen up your body and mind. The best thing about it is that you can use the sauna and steam room after the swim!
Residence Squash: 7.20pm, 8pm, 8.40pm, 9.20pm, Goodwin Sports Centre (40 minute sessions). Have you ever played squash before? If not, don’t worry! The rules are simple, you hit a ball against a wall! It’s as easy as that. You can play either in pairs (singles), or you can have up to four players (doubles). You play in a four-walled court with a small rubber ball.Squash has been rated in 2003 as the number one healthiest sport to play, so why don’t you book onto one of our free 40 minute sessions?
Residence Bouldering: 7.20-10pm, The Matrix, Goodwin Sports Centre. Bouldering is a form of climbing without the use of ropes. But don't worry, you don’t climb more than a few metres off the ground and there are thick mats to cushion any falls! Bouldering is great way to build your climbing skill and strength as it uses more technical principles of climbing and it allows you to practise moves whilst being at a safe distance from the ground.
