Are you on a date that isn’t working out? Do you feel like you’re not in a safe situation? Is your Tinder or POF (Plenty of Fish) date not who they said they were on their profile? Does it all feel a bit weird?
Anybody can be who they want to be online but if you’re feeling unsafe or the slightest bit unsure then the safest thing to do is get yourself away from the situation.
A campaign is starting in Sheffield, which is being backed by The Edge Bar, to support safe dating and tackle sexual harassment in pubs, bars and clubs.
‘Ask For Angela’ encourages you to discreetly ask for help from bar staff if you’re feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. This might be whilst on a date or if you’re getting any unwanted attention.
If you go to the bar and ask for ‘Angela’ the bar staff will know you need some help getting out of your situation. You can also Ask for Angela, if you have had a little too much to drink and want to get home safely or feel that someone may have spiked your drink.
Asking For Angela at the bar will discreetly alert staff to the call for help, and bar staff are being trained about how best to offer this. This might involve calling someone a taxi, contacting friends or family, asking the person causing distress to leave the venue, or calling the Police.
