Did you know that students who live in University Accommodation are entitled to activities that are completely free of charge as part of the Social Sport programme? We have partnered up with Sport Sheffield to bring you opportunities to get involved in sport as part of Residence Life.
We have over 40 weekly sports and activities like swimming, squash, bouldering, football, yoga, fitness classes and many more. You can even put a team together and play in a regular 5-a-side football league. If those activities don’t sound appealing, how about trying our free open social sessions including basketball, badminton, lacrosse or netball?
We are really big on adventure sports, after all Sheffield is the outdoor capital of the UK! We have weekly learn to cycle sessions, mountain bike sessions (we even provide our own mountain bikes), walks and we are even planning a weekly outdoor bouldering session.
We also recognise the need to provide more ladies only sessions so we have women’s boxing, mountain biking and women's only football to encourage more girls to try these exciting sports.
Over at Residence Life, we think that self-care is a priority in students’ lives so we run 5 weekly yoga sessions across all of the Residences as well as weekly mindfulness and meditation sessions in order to equip students with tools to combat stress.
Overall, there are over 40 different sessions a week which are all free of charge. The sessions are either led by qualified instructors or student leaders.
We utilise fantastic space on students' doorstep at Ranmoor, Endcliffe, Allen Court and Sheffield 3 to support our fitness classes. We also use the Goodwin Sports Centre’s excellent Sports Hall & world class pitches. These activities take place throughout term, for the duration of 30 weeks.
All of the sessions are fun, informal and a great place to make new friends.
