Things to do in Sheffield
Step into Christmas
Welcome to Step Into Christmas; A fun-fuelled, 12 mile charity night walk through the Peak District with a Christmas themed pub style quiz along the way (with guest list spots at ROAR on the 8th December up for grabs for the team of five with the most correct answers)!
Featuring a bar, hot food and live music at our farm half way point the event is bigger and better than ever and will be raising money for some incredible local charities. PLUS your ticket includes your food, hi vis jacket, map, entry to the live music venue and additional, Christmas themed add ons!
Step Into Christmas will take place on Wednesday 1st December 2021, starting at 5pm and will finish with a social at ROAR (you can purchase a discounted ROAR ticket alongside your ticket for the event for an additional £4 on the next page). Tickets will cost £8 each, 10 tickets for £70 (£7 each) or 15 tickets for £90 (£6 each) with a £30 minimum sponsorship raised per person.
PLEASE NOTE: To take part; you must fill out the registration form which will be emailed to you after you have purchased a ticket.
RAG stands for Raising and Giving so of course the fundraising element of this event is crucial. Although, the minimum sponsorship is £30, we want everyone to raise as much money as they can for charity!
You have until Monday 13th December to raise and pay in the £30. Gift Aid does not count towards your sponsorship. There's plenty of help and guidance on how to raise your sponsorship in our fundraising pack which is emailed out to all ticket holders after they've purchased a ticket.
All fund raised money must be paid directly to Sheffield RAG either online via JustGiving (follow the instructions in the fundraising pack stating how to do this) or in cash and deposited via The Activities Zone Desk.
WHERE YOUR MONEY IS GOING:
The ticket price goes towards the running of the event whilst all the sponsorship money raised will go to local charities. 50% of the money raised will go to Whirlow Hall Farm Trust (the halfway point) - a charitable organisation where children with disadvantaged backgrounds are offered educational experiences and opportunities. The rest of the money raised will be divided between 4 charities, one of which will be chosen by the society/person that raises the most money.
WHAT TO DO ON THE DAY:
Arrive at The Activities and Sports Zone in The Student’s Union at 5pm on Wednesday 1st December.
Here you will be registered, given your high-vis jacket and a map. It is from here that everyone begins Step Into Christmas!
PLEASE DRESS APPROPRIATELY FOR A NIGHT WALK IN DECEMBER.
We strongly recommend that you wear warm clothes (hat, scarf, gloves, jumpers etc) and suitable footwear (flat shoes with good grip that are comfortable to walk long distances in) and bring a waterproof. We strongly advise you don’t wear jeans as when they get wet, they stay wet. It will be cold and could be wet and windy so please be prepared and wear lots of layers!
Bring a torch with you! This is a night walk and you will need a torch to see your map and the path ahead of you. Try outdoor shops and discount stores but make sure that you have enough battery power and a torch strong enough for a night hike- we do not recommend using your phone torch.
Remember to bring your phone with you fully charged on the night and change your next of kin contact name to ICE (in case of emergency) in your mobile. In case of emergency we can contact your family straight away.
Bring a bottle of water with you, you’ll need to keep hydrated on the walk. Maybe even a flask and hot drink!
Please remember at all times that you’re representing the University of Sheffield, so be conscious of noise levels and behaviour. We want you to have a great time but not at the expense of the local community!
Please complete the walk and come back to the Students’ Union. It is of the upmost importance that each individual returns to the Union Check Point once the walk has ended so we can note that you have completed the walk safely- plus you wouldn't want to miss the afterparty at ROAR!
Failure to check in after the walk will result in us assuming you are missing. If you wish to leave the event early you must let us know by phone.
There will be a Safety Phone in operation on the night, if you need any help, you are lost or haven’t seen a steward in a while or someone in your group is injured, please call us. Although in the case of real emergencies, call 999 first if needed, then please call us!
The number will be given to you on the night.

You will be notified by text and email at least 3 hours before the event to the contact details you provided us with. This is extremely unlikely and will only happen in extreme weather conditions. Assume the event is on if you do not received communication otherwise.
